Brixham has houses tumbling down the cliffs right onto the quays, with restaurants serving fish and lobster. It is an old port, with a modern marina alongside the older port which sports a replica of The Golden Hind: the ship that Sir Francis Drake first circumnavigated the world. It is also the place where William of Orange landed to take the crown in 1688. A few feet from the statue of William of Orange, his head liberally covered in the regulation amount of pigeon droppings, stands a replica of Drake's ship. It's ridiculously small to have faced the seven seas. |
